Ooh la la ... RED WINE REDUCTION SAUCE

RED WINE REDUCTION SAUCE HOW TO

Do you have an accumulation of opened half-drank bottles of red wine sitting around from your holiday shindigs?  After a few days, the quality of leftover red wine tends to diminish pretty quickly, but don’t pour it out -- Make your own red wine reduction sauce!

We went away for a week after Christmas and left half a bottle of Cabernet on the counter. By the time we got home, it wasn’t in very drinkable condition. I'd read about various methods of reducing red wine into a sauce, but truth be told, I rarely have leftover wine! :)

Deciding there was no time like the present, I hit the stove with my Cab' and made the tastiest red wine reduction sauce to drizzle on top of my steak salad.  Here’s the official Bikini Body Mommy how-to...

Ingredients

3/4 tbsp olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 yellow onion, minced
1/3 cup raisins
2 cups dry red wine
2 cups beef stock, chicken stock or vegetable broth (I used beef stock for my steak)
sea salt to taste

*You can experiment and add any combination of shallots, garlic, onion, celery, and herbs during the reduction stage if you like. They will only add flavour.

Directions

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over med-high heat. Add the garlic and yellow onion, and sauté, about 5 minutes. Add the red wine and raisins, increase heat to high. Allow wine to reduce for 15 minutes or so until it becomes very thick and syrupy and at least 3/4 of the liquid has evaporated. Add the stock or broth. Allow it to reduce until there is about a half cup of liquid left in the pan. Taste for seasoning. Depending on the stock or broth you used, you may need salt. Run the reduction through a fine sieve or cheese cloth to remove the onion garlic and raisin pieces.

Notes

  • This sauce is DELICIOUS. I’ve already used it on top of steak, duck and salmon.

  • A little goes a long way. This sauce is rich ... Just a small drizzle was plenty for the steak.

  • If you have leftover’s, put it in the freezer. It freezes well.

Make 2013 the year of YOU... Setting Goals & Being Brave!

Setting Goals Bikini Body Mommy

It’s a New Year -- so full of possibility! I hope you all had a fabulous holiday ...  Welcome to 2013!  There's something about a new year that makes me want to jump and scream for joy!  I love the expanse of a whole brand new year stretched out before me like a blank page just waiting to be written.  I love the idea that THIS year I can be brave enough to do all the things I've always wanted to do.

As a child, I loved the book, "Anne of Green Gables".  In the book, there's a line that says, "Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it".  Anne replies, "Well, there's no mistakes in it YET", which is a bit pessimistic.  But when you think about it, she's right--there are no mistakes in it yet!  The start of a new year is like that:  Endless possibilities with no mistakes made yet.

2013 IS A YEAR FOR BRAVERY

I’m typically not a big believer in New Year’s resolutions but I seem to have quite a lot I need to achieve in 2013 so some changes are definitely in order. I want you to follow my lead this year, and choose to be brave! The first step of this process is to figure out what you want for yourself.  If I learned anything last year during my 100 pound Bikini Body Mommy Transformation, it was how empowering it is to live your life with BRAVERY. Bravery is attained through the simple act of doing the work that is required to set and tackle your OWN goals. That means, if you want to lose 100 pounds before the end of 2013 -- then you know you need to lose 3 pounds a week to make your goal.  Do the work, prepare.  Figure out exactly what you need to do and eat everyday to hit your weekly goal. If you need to revamp your nutrition and exercise regime (or even implement one for the first time in your life), but have been afraid to do it because you're not sure where to start -- start somewhere. Now is not the time to stay afraid of what you don't know.  It's time to take the steps that are necessary to get what you want.

COMMIT TO DOING THE WORK

Bravery manifests its self when you commit to your goals and do the work. (tweetable)

Learn to love the grind, as I call it.  The grind is about committing to doing the work that needs to been done, be it large(losing 100 pounds) or small(losing 5 pounds), difficult(running a marathon) or simple(running for 1 minute without stopping). It's amazing how often we get messed up and overwhelmed by the simple act of not knowing what to do next. Here's an example from my own world:

  • I'm writing a book based off my 100 Pound Bikini Body Mommy Transformation.

  • I need to gather all of the information and materials from my nutrition and training program, compile them, write a book, launch a new social platform, blog, and build a community of dedicated followers who value what I have to say.

  • I don't know where to start.

Because of that, I haven't done the work. But finding out where to start is easy.  I can sort through all of my notes.  I can do a simple mind map of what I want to accomplish, I can Google the process. I can do anything. But because I haven't committed to the work, and put it down in a simple bullet list of action plan points, it's "invisible" to me and how to achieve the end product.

Even the simple an act of writing down somewhere “what I want” is a great first step to committing to the work.

And that’s what I want you to do.  I want you to commit, over and over again -- every day to doing the work this new year.

BUT WHAT IF I FALL? WHAT IF I MESS UP?

You will. There's no doubt that you'll fall down.  It happens! Every diet has that "holy crap, I just ate the entire bag of chips" moment. But guess what comes next?

You DON'T GIVE UP -- You find the bridge.

The fastest way to get back on your brave new path is to walk away from where you failed and walk back towards success. (tweetable)

I'M NOT EVEN SURE WHERE I'M GOING!

Okay, well, that's a larger issue. If you've not yet committed to a personal vision, then it's difficult. And I know that's not always easy. What if you've been over weight for ten years? What if you have never worked out in your entire life? What if your big goal is much larger than something that can be achieved with just a few weeks of dedicated work? What if you can't even see your big goal?

Well, I said 2013 is about being brave, right?  Start there. What previous goal did you give up on? Where in your life do you still harbor regret for a moment that you chose the "safe" path? There's almost always meat in those places worth considering.

After that, ask yourself this: What would you attempt if you believed in yourself a lot more than you do today and knew you wouldn't fail? (tweetable)

WRITING IS AN IMPORTANT STEP IN THIS PROCESS

I say this as often as I can: paper and pen are your secret super power when it comes to accomplishing your goals. Writing something down with your hands (I really have to stress that I don't mean "type something down") gives off a bigger feeling of bonding commitment than typing something out. And more so, writing gets you from "I don't know" to "oooh, maybe..." a lot faster than staring at a screen, drinking too much coffee, asking friends, tweeting, facebooking, etc.

Start with the pen. Start there and go back to it often.

BRAVERY MEANS MOVING IN ANY DIRECTION

Even back. Back is a direction. Brave just means that you're not stagnant. Sitting still, thinking, and over-analyzing to the point that nothing happens (and believe me ... if anyone has a history of falling prey to this behavior its ME.  I am the self-professed queen of “paralysis by analysis”).  It means you're going to do. Take action. Everyday -- big or small.  Forward, backwards, sideways... You’re going to commit to moving in some direction, EVERYDAY.

And if you want to get super duper brave, there are scads of wonderful women just like you who have joined the Bikini Body Mommy Community to work together on setting goals and taking action on them -- everyday. Join them! Or not. It’s up to you...

Do.

So let's hear it Bikini Body Mommies ... what are your Goals for 2013?  What are you scared of? ...I wanna know! :) xx,-B FAVOR TIME: If you loved this post and don't want to miss others just like it, please take 2 seconds to follow me over on BLOGLOVIN

No-Guilt-Nog!

Bikini Body Mommy Healthy Eggnog recipe

There are certain drinks that are synonymous with the Christmas season... The first one that comes to mind for me, is Egg nog! Unfortunately, this creamy holiday beverage is traditionally very high in fat and sugar, and it is often made with rum -- which only adds to the already high calorie content. Well not to worry, my little Egg nog lovers -- I have a solution!

If you happen to love the flavour combination of vanilla, nutmeg, and rum as much as I do, but aren't crazy about gaining weight during the holidays -- then my Bikini Body Mommy NO-GUILT-NOG recipe is for you!

I make mine with rum extract, but if alcohol is a must for your holiday party this weekend, you can swap the extract for rum to make it a "Christmas cocktail."

If you are pregnant, currently breastfeeding, or plain just aren't a fan of drinking raw eggs (Let's face it, who has time to risk getting sick with salmonella during this time of the year?!) *Substitute the raw egg yolks and banana, with 1/2 cup of Fat-free vanilla pudding. The consistency and sweetness will be exactly the same as the original!

Bikini Body Mommy | No Guilt Nog Smoothie

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Coconut milk
1/4 cup Almond Milk
2 Egg yolks 1 tsp Vanilla extract
1/4 tsp Nutmeg (or more if you prefer)
1/2 Banana 1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (OPTIONAL)

Instructions:
1.  In blender, combine 2 egg yolks, and vanilla.
2.  Next add coconut milk, almond milk, and nutmeg.  Blend until well combined.  If you’re using protein powder, add now and blend until smooth.
3.  Next add banana.  Blend until it reaches the desired consistency.
4.  Pour, sprinkle with cinnamon, serve, and enjoy!

***For the alcoholic variation, reduce the coconut milk to 1/4 cup, and add 2 oz. of your favorite rum.

Thanks lovies!!! xx,-B

DECEMBER.

Christmas Holidays with Briana Christine

Well, here we are Bikini Body Mommies -- it’s December!  The year is nearly behind us, and it's time to start thinking about what we want 2013 to bring, right?!  Well, before you run off and start making your list of New Years' resolutions -- STOP.  I want you to go grab a cup of hot tea and a cozy blanket, and snuggle in! Being a Bikini Body Mommy is about BALANCE -- which is something I KNOW most of us mommies struggle with.  So this year, before all of the hectic holiday festivities and family commitments begin, I think it’s important that we take a short time-out to relax and reflect on the past year, and all that it has brought us. After all -- if January is the month of resolution, shouldn't December be the month of reflection? I think so.

As I sit in here in my jammies, snuggled up in my cozy blanket with a hot cup of “Swiss Apple tea” in hand (this sugar-free apple cider alternative, is a December staple for me!), I am reflective of all the changes that have happened in my own life this year.  It feels amazing to look back on 2012 and see more success than failure, and from the failure see lessons learned.  In fact, if there was a standard by which any given year could be judged, for me it would be looking back each December and being able to definitively say, "I am in a better place now than I was this time last year.”  I am thankful that this year, this is true for me.  As I look out my window to see the soft dusting of snow and twinkling lights in my neighborhood, it's tempting to start planning the coming year, and where I'd like to be this time in 2013.  But this year, I'm resisting.  Instead I'm going to take most of this last month of 2012 to live in the present, and enjoy the moment and place that I am in.

This also means taking the time to personally wish you and your loved ones, a very happy holiday season!  I am so grateful for your constant love and support of the workouts, nutrition advice, and other information I have been sending your way, and for helping to make Bikini Body Mommy the empowering positive platform for women that it is today.  I have personally connected with so many of you, and your individual stories this past month. Thank you so much for being both vulnerable and brave enough at the same time to share yourself with me.

Only a month into it’s launch,  there have been well over 100,000 of you ladies who have visited this blog, left comments, posted your daily progress on facebook, shared your family and daily life with me on instagram, emailed, tweeted, pinned my workouts, and spread your infectious happiness and motivation amongst the BIKINI BODY MOMMY COMMUNITY -- in turn motivating, helping, and inspiring countless others to do the same.  Even though this space is different from the "traditional" face-to-face personal training sphere that I am use to, words cannot express how much utter joy and LOVE goes into each and everyday of coaching, connecting, mentoring, inspiring, and communicating with every single one of you -- And how equally thankful I am that you are willing to communicate, connect, and inspire ME right back. The accumulation of all of the above, has made me so ridiculously happy that I took the tremendous leap of faith that was required at the beginning of this year, to leave everything

known, comfortable, and familiar behind.  As many of you who know my story, might have guessed -- 2012 has been one of the hardest, yet most empowering years of my life.

HARD:

  • Putting on a bikini 7 days after you give birth, is uncomfortable (some might argue INSANE).

  • Standing in front of the bright lights and scrupulous lens of a professional photographer week-after-week (often times without seeing much change) ... when you are personal trainer who is 100 pounds over weight -- is humiliating, humbling, and downright painful.

EMPOWERING:

  • Publicly transforming my body, ultimately loosing 100 pounds, writing a book, and founding this company, has not been easy -- but nothing worth while ever is.

SO THANK YOU, Bikini Body Mommies.  Thank you for believing in me -- IN THIS BIKINI BODY MOMMY MOVEMENT, and for giving me the motivation and support I need to continuously re-charge and push beyond my own boundaries of what I believe I'm capable of creating, achieving, and delivering to you all -- YOU LADIES ROCK MY WORLD!

All my Love,
